Venerable Roots Rocker Steve Earle to Perform at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall

The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall welcomes venerable roots rocker Steve Earle and his band The Dukes with special guest The Mastersons on Thursday, May 21.

Throughout his more than 30-year career, Steve Earle has mined the rich veins of American roots music from country to rock ‘n roll, folk and rockabilly. A protégé of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, Earle quickly became a master storyteller in his own right, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, and countless others. 1986 saw the release of Earle’s debut record Guitar Town, which shot to #1 on the Country charts and immediately established the term “New Country”. What followed was an extremely exciting and varied array of releases including the biting hard rock of Copperhead Road (1988), the minimalist beauty of Train A Comin’ (1995), the politically charged masterpiece Jerusalem (2002) and the GRAMMY award-winning albums The Revolution Starts... Now (2004), Washington Square Serenade (2007) and Townes (2009). I’ll Never Get Out Of This World Alive (2011) was Earle’s 14th studio album and shares the same name with his 2011 debut novel.

On his 16th studio album of his singular career, Terraplane, Earle pays tribute to the blues, influenced by the blues giants he saw growing up in Texas – Lightnin’ Hopkins, Freddy King, Johnny Winter, Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughn, Canned Heat and Billy Gibbons. Over 11 original tracks, Earle and his band The Dukes traverse various forms of the blues from Texas roadhouse blues, to acoustic country blues, Chicago blues and to pre-war blues. Just released last month, Terraplane already ascended to the #1 spot on the Blues Chart and the Americana Chart, #2 in Folk and #3 in Country and in Independent Current Albums.

The Mastersons are husband-and-wife duo Chris Masterson (vocals, guitar) and Eleanor Whitmore (vocals, violin and guitar). The Austin-based duo’s lilting songcraft and charismatic chemistry have already won over listeners around the world, thanks to the couples’ ongoing status as members of Steve Earle’s band The Dukes, their frequent opening sets for Earle, and their critically-lauded 2012 debut album, Birds Fly South.

Tickets are available for purchase at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Offices, ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at (800) 745-3000.
